Dr. J. Steven Matthis is a life-long resident of Sampson County and has served on the Four County EMC Board of Directors since 2008. Steve earned his Director Gold Certification through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). He received his education from N.C. State University and graduated with a doctorate in education and a minor in animal science. Steve is a farmer and retired educator from Sampson County Community College. He is currently the Dean of the House of Raeford Farms School of Agriculture and Biological Sciences at the University of Mount Olive. Steve and his wife Paula have been married 47 years and have a daughter and three granddaughters who live in Herndon, VA. They attend Rose Hill Baptist Church where Steve serves as a deacon. In his spare time, he enjoys creating stained glass, woodworking, boating, and tinkering with his antique sawmill.
