Four County Response for the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As a community-based electricity provider, Four County Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) is taking precautions amid growing concerns about the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Following the guidance of President Trump and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, we plan to safeguard our operations while protecting the well-being and safety of our employees and our members.

To Our Members

As a cooperative, we have a responsibility to do what is in the best interest of all of our members. Beginning Wednesday, March 18th, we are closing our lobbies to walk-in traffic. However, our drive-thru windows will remain open for business. By closing our lobbies, we are limiting the direct exposure of our members and employees. We ask that anyone who can do business by phone to please do so in order to keep drive-thru times down.

Additionally, we are suspending the disconnection of electric service for non-payment until April 30, 2020. Please be aware electric bills are not being waived and it remains the responsibility of each member to pay as they can, which helps avoid a larger balance in the future.

During emergency situations, we often see an increase in phone scams trying to take advantage of the fear and confusion of the situation by calling members and threatening to cut off services unless immediate payment is made. If you have any questions, please call us at (888) 368-7289.

Signs & Symptoms

To Protect Yourself

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds – If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
  • Cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue and discard the tissue immediately – If a tissue is not available, use the inside of your elbow, not your hands
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Practice social distancing (6 feet)
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick

To Protect Others

  • Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily at home and at work. This includes your car’s steering wheel, tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks. If surfaces are dirty, use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
