2023 Recap
The 73rd Annual Membership Meeting, held on Oct. 9, 2023, had a remarkable turnout of members. During the meeting, General Counsel Aaron Ellis reminded members of the cooperative’s three-year, staggered-term system for directors. Four seats were up for election, including a contested one for the East Sampson Directorate District. In addition, a motion to re-elect three incumbent directors for a new three-year term was approved. Two candidates made their cases for the open board membership seat, and members elected Mary McGill Rose that night. Secretary-Treasurer Eugene Jordan reported on the cooperative’s solid financial health. A tribute was paid to Mr. R. W. (Buck) Blanchard, Jr., who retired from the East Sampson Directorate seat, earning the title of Director Emeritus. Chief Executive Officer Don Gatton addressed the members, discussing the challenges in the utility industry, leading to a necessary average rate increase of 8.7% across all rate classes. Despite this, Four County EMC remains committed to providing safe, affordable, and reliable services. The 73rd Annual Membership Meeting was a memorable event, celebrating the cooperative’s achievements and commitment to its members.
