Electric Rate Increase
Beginning January 1, 2026, Four County EMC will implement an electric rate increase for all residential members. This adjustment is necessary due to rising wholesale power costs from NCEMC and Duke Energy Progress, as well as increased national costs to generate and deliver reliable electricity. As a not-for-profit cooperative, Four County EMC makes rate changes only to cover the cost of providing service.

Because each household uses electricity differently, the impact will vary by member. Bills will increase by a percentage applied to your current charges, and the amount you see will depend on your monthly usage. The chart next to this section shows estimated monthly changes for common usage levels to help you understand how the adjustment may affect your bill.

Why Rates Are Increasing
Wholesale power is our largest expense, and costs continue to rise due to higher generation, transmission, and peak-demand charges.
Peak Demand Information
Your monthly bill now includes an informational line showing your individual peak demand. This number has no impact on your charges at this time. It is simply a tool to help you understand when your home is using the most electricity and how these usage patterns influence system-wide costs over time.
Facilities Charge
The facilities charge covers the fixed cost of maintaining and supporting our electric distribution system. As these costs increase over time, periodic adjustments to this charge ensure we can continue delivering safe and reliable service.
