Morning Peak Alert: Please Reduce Energy Use 4–10 a.m.
Winter Storm Gianna has brought extreme cold temperatures and one of the highest energy-use conditions our system has experienced. As heating systems work harder and longer, electricity demand rises sharply across our service territory. Energy use is already at record levels, and demand is expected to climb again between 4:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., when many homes and businesses begin their day.
During this critical peak period, even small, temporary reductions in energy use can help ease strain on the electric system and reduce the risk of widespread or temporary outages. We know staying warm is essential, especially for families, seniors, and those who may be more vulnerable to the cold. Conservation efforts should always be made safely.
Ways to help conserve energy during peak hours:
• Set thermostats to 68 degrees or lower when possible
• Delay use of large appliances until later in the day
• Seal drafts and keep doors and windows closed
• Turn off unnecessary lights and electronics
These collective efforts help protect reliability for the entire community while crews continue working in challenging winter conditions. We appreciate our members looking out for one another during this period of extreme cold.
