Four County EMC urges all members to exercise caution when approached by door-to-door solar sales representatives. We have received multiple reports—particularly in Pender and Sampson Counties—of companies making inaccurate claims in an attempt to secure contracts for residential solar installations.
It’s important to understand that Four County EMC does not offer retail net metering, and we do not partner with or endorse any specific solar installer or contractor. While we support members who wish to explore renewable energy options, we will never pressure you to install solar, nor do we employ third-party companies to do so on our behalf.
Members have reported that some salespeople are falsely claiming to work with Four County EMC through a “new net metering program.” Others are stating that the government will pay you to install solar or that you’ll receive a check for signing up. In some cases, representatives have also implied that solar panels can be installed immediately—without accounting for necessary planning, permitting, or utility review.
These types of statements may be intended to create a false sense of urgency and can mislead homeowners into signing contracts based on inaccurate or incomplete information.
If you are considering solar, we strongly encourage you to contact Four County EMC first. Our team can provide accurate, personalized guidance to help you make a fully informed decision that is right for your home and energy use.
